Is talking about mental health still taboo?
Over the past two years, the partners of the project Let’s Talk have worked extensively with teachers, educators and youth workers to strengthen their capacities in supporting the mental health of young people, with a focus on gender–sensitive approaches related to mental health.
To conclude the two-year journey, an event was held in Palermo on 21 November. During the event in which more than 55 people participated we talked about the link between mental health and violence, why it is important to educate and support young people. On this occasion the materials developed within the project were presented. The project platform along with Workbook for Youth and Handbook for Youth Workers received the excellent feedbacks. The platform was seen as an innovative element where among the various sections one can find all the materials produced within the project but also many other materials that can be useful to young people and youth workers. The interactive part where you can find podcasts, anonymous stories and questionnaire that allows us to find free psychological services attracted so much attention.
Together with Non Una Di Meno Palermo and some experts in the field of mental health and many people who participated in this interactive talk we found out more about the link between gender violence and mental health.
This for sure was an event that confirmed how important it is to talk about the mental health of young people and showed so many methods that can be useful for youth workers to support young people on such an important issue.
